The Bluebelt of hard-hit Staten Island isn?t made to withstand an onslaught the size of Hurricane Sandy. Our intrepid reporter Kathleen Raven bought boots and gloves and went there to help, but could not help herself ? the reporting instinct is too strong. She asked locals what they needed, so she could bring that back the next day. And she brought her camera. Raven?s story of Staten Island is one of the collision between climate, human restoration, nostalgia and the fierce ugliness and beauty of nature.
